Each emergent reader booklet contains 8 pages: the title page with 7 additional pages containing common French words associated with Chinese New Year. Words included are lanterns, fireworks, gifts, dragons, envelopes, food, and rooster for Chinese New Year 2017, which is the Year of the Rooster. Suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page are also included.
Students first read and cut out the booklet that contains text and illustrations and they then sketch and create their own version using the text only template.
The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review, and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text.

French Thanksgiving 4 x 4 Matching Squares Puzzle - Students assemble a 4 x 4 French/English vocabulary puzzle with 25 words associated with Thanksgiving. Sample words are:
canneberges, dinde, nourriture, pèlerin, rendre grâce, and tarte aux pommes.
Several words are repeated which makes the puzzle more challenging. Just photocopy enough for a class set (1 for every 2 students if working in pairs, or 1 per student if working alone), cut and fasten with a paper clip. Distribute to students and challenge them to reassemble the puzzles as quickly as possible. There is a list of all words alongside the puzzle in French and English. This can be used as a vocabulary bookmark and reference.
